Bangladesh uses a few different “passport size” photos, and that is why so many people get confused. Your e-passport photo is taken at the passport office, but job applications, admission forms, visa files and bank documents still ask you to bring or upload a photo. This guide explains which size you need for which purpose and how to make it at home in a few minutes.
Bangladesh photo sizes at a glance
| Purpose | Size | Background | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adult e-passport | No photo needed | – | Photo, fingerprints and iris are captured at the passport office. |
| Child e-passport (under 6) | 3R print (89 × 127 mm) | Grey | Lab print; children under 6 do not give biometrics. |
| Printed forms, bank, admit cards | 45 × 55 mm | Plain white or light grey | The common “passport size” used by studios in Bangladesh. |
| Online forms (govt jobs, Teletalk, admission) | 300 × 300 px | White or light | Usually JPG under 100 KB; signature 300 × 80 px under 60 KB. |

Do I need a photo for the Bangladesh e-passport?
No, not as an adult. When you go for biometrics, the officer takes your photo with a camera at the counter, along with your fingerprints and an iris scan. Just wear dark, plain clothes, avoid heavy make-up and keep your forehead and ears visible. The only exception is a child under six: parents must bring a 3R lab print with a grey background because small children cannot give fingerprints.

How to make a 300 × 300 pixel photo under 100 KB
- Open the photo maker and tap BD online 300×300.
- Upload a clear front-facing photo. The tool finds your face and centres it.
- Go to Background and choose white.
- In Download, keep the maximum file size at 100 KB and download the JPG.
- Upload it to the Teletalk or job form. If the form asks for 80 KB or 50 KB, choose that limit instead.
45 × 55 mm vs 35 × 45 mm – which one?
Bangladeshi studios usually print 45 × 55 mm as “passport size”, while most foreign embassies want 35 × 45 mm. Check the form: visa applications for Europe, the UK, Malaysia or Singapore follow their own country size, not the Bangladeshi one. Saudi Arabia and the UAE use larger sizes (40 × 60 mm and 43 × 55 mm).
| Destination / use | Size to choose |
|---|---|
| Bangladesh forms and offices | 45 × 55 mm |
| Schengen, UK, Australia, Singapore | 35 × 45 mm |
| Malaysia | 35 × 50 mm |
| Saudi Arabia visa | 40 × 60 mm |
| UAE visa | 43 × 55 mm |
| USA, India e-Visa | 2 × 2 inch (51 × 51 mm) |

Tips for a photo that is accepted the first time
- Wear a dark shirt or kameez so you stand out from a white background.
- Face a window during the day; avoid a ceiling light directly above you.
- Keep a neutral face, mouth closed, both eyes open and looking at the camera.
- Hijab or cap is fine for religious reasons, but the full face from chin to forehead must be visible.
- Do not use beauty filters or edit your skin – officials compare the photo with your NID.
